Our Private Family Fishing Trip gives 2 adults + up to 4 children aged 12 and under exclusive use of the boat for two hours.
Malcolm will get everyone set up and show the kids what to do, with plenty of hands-on help as you fish some of our favourite local spots, check the craypots and keep an eye out for Kaikōura's incredible marine wildlife along the way.
No fishing experience needed - just bring the family and come ready for some fun!

A Fishing Trip Just for Your Family
Having the boat to yourselves means there’s no worrying about how the kids are getting on around other guests - everyone can relax, get involved and enjoy the trip at their own pace.
There’s plenty of room for everyone to get involved and lots of help from Malcolm when it’s time to bait a hook, reel something in or see what’s waiting in the craypots.
It's relaxed, fun and all about giving the kids a proper hands-on fishing experience - while the grown-ups get to enjoy it too!
What's Included
Everything you need for your family fishing adventure is already on board.
You'll have a fully guided 2-hour private fishing trip with Skipper Malcolm, exclusive use of the boat for your family, quality rods, reels and bait, and lifejackets for adults, children and infants.
We'll fillet and prepare your catch at the end of the trip, ready for you to take away in your complimentary Top Catch bucket.
You'll also receive a $10 voucher towards having your catch cooked at Cooper's Catch Fish & Chips in Kaikōura.
What Can We Expect to Catch?
Every trip is different depending on the season, conditions and what's biting on the day - and that's half the excitement! You'll likely reel in Perch and Blue Cod, and the kids can also get involved as we check the craypots along the way.
Take your freshly prepared catch home to cook yourselves, or make the most of your $10 Cooper's Catch voucher and have it cooked for you here in Kaikōura. Malcolm can also let you know about other great local options available on the day.
That's family dinner sorted!
Note: Crayfish are wild-caught and can't be guaranteed. Any opportunity to take crayfish home is subject to current fishing regulations, seasonal closures and availability.
Good to Know
All trips depart from the main jetty at South Bay Marina, Kaikōura. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled departure, ready to go. Free parking is available just around the corner on Kaka Road.
Dress the kids (and yourselves!) for the conditions, with a windproof or waterproof layer, sunscreen and sunglasses. You're also welcome to bring drinks and snacks on board.
If anyone in the family is prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking seasickness medication at least an hour before departure.
